» A Message from the Chairman

A critical look at our responsibilities reveals that peace, stability sustenance of the Nigeria's nascent democracy rest squarely on shoulders of the State Independent Electoral Commissions.

My colleagues and myself in the Commission are aware of the enormous challenges this duty call has placed before us. We are also aware of the expectations of the people of the state in relation to our performance. To some, we are appointed to d6 our masters bidding, to others great confidence is reposed in us.

May I assure everyone, that being the first State Independent Electoral Commission ever appointed in the state, we are going to start a historical build up on election management. My colleagues and I have pledged total commitment; transparency, integrity and probity in the discharge of our duty in order to justify the confidence reposed in us by some and to build the confidence of others who doubt our neutrality. We shall be guided by the policy of regular consultation and dialogue with all shareholders.

The results of the forthcoming local government election will no doubt vindicate the wisdom of the authors of the 1999 Constitution which created State Independent Electoral Commission. The aim of course is to institutionalize true federalism in electoral process in Nigeria.

We are committed to conducting free, fair and credible election and cannot afford to fail the people of Rivers State.

Thank you

Sam Sam Jaja Ph.D (JP)
CHAIRMAN
