BARR. MUSBAU ADEWALE OYEFESO

Barrister Musibau Adewale Oyefeso was born in Lagos Island on November 13, 1964 to a devout Muslim parental background.
Barrister Oyefeso had his primary education at St. Peter's Primary School, Ajele Street, Lagos-Island between 1970 and 1976 after which he went for his secondary education at the Ijebu Divisional Multilateral Grammar School, Okun-Owa, Ijebu between 1976 and 1981 for his WASC Certificate as well as Ogun State College of Education School of Basic Studies also in Ijebu-Ode for his Higher School Certificate (HSC).
The young Oyefeso immediately after his HSC programme, got admission into University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, Lagos between 1983-1984 to study Political Science but the knack for excellence in him and his interest in the protection of human right of the less privileged in the Society, encouraged him to change his course from Political Science to Law between 1984-1987 in the same University and bagged LL.B. (Hons).
Not yet satisfied with the feat he assumed, young Oyefeso immediately after his National Youth Service Corps (N. Y. S. C) programme., attended the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos between 1987-1988 where he was called to the Bar and he become a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme court of Nigeria. He thereafter proceeded for his second degree between 1996-1997 at the UNILAG and capped his effort with a LL.M degree (Master at Law). He had early in 1986 attended a course at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

A hardworking and dedicated personality, Barrister Oyefeso started work as a Chamber attaché with the Firm of E. I. Fatungase & Co., firm of solicitors in 1987 and later participated in the mandatory N.Y.S.C. programme, under which he served meritoriously with the Federal Ministry of Justice and National Committee of Shari'ah in 1988. After his National service, he worked briefly as a Junior Counsel at Tony Akika & Co. Firm of Legal Practitioners in 1989. Between 1989-1990, he was the pioneer Legal Adviser of the prestigious Yaba College of Technology Yaba, Lagos and later a Law Lecturer at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo between 1990-2000. He became the Principal Counsel, Sumola, Oyefeso & Co. Legal Practitioners in 1999 as well as Principal Partner, Banire, Oyefeso & Co. (Barrister & Solicitors) and M. A. Oyefeso & Co. (Legal Practitioners). He was a member of Board of Directors, Ayepe Community Bank, Ayepe - Ijebu, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Standard Trust Assurance Plc., 1993-1997 and between 2000-2006 member, Governing Council of Ayepe Comprehensive High School, Ayepe-Ijebu.

In regnition of his Professional background, Leadership qualities, Integrity and administrative effectiveness, Barr. Oyefeso was appointed in 2003 as an Electoral Commissioner in the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Executive Governor of Lagos State and was re-appointed into the same office in May, 2007 by the Ex-Governor, after he successfully completed his first term which ended in January, 2007.
Since his appointment into the State Electoral Commission in 2003, Barr. Oyefeso has carried out the following electoral activities successfully. He was the Electoral Commissioner that supervised 2004 local government elections in Ajeromi, Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, Oriade, Ojo, Oto-Awori, Iba, Olorunda, Badagry Central and Badagry West Local Government areas of the State. He had also along with his colleagues, monitored the November 2004 United States of America (USA) Presidential Election in Washington DC on the invitation of International Foundation for Election System (IFES).

Barrister Oyefeso has also in line with his electoral duties, attended the delegate conference of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (FOSIECON) in Abeokuta, Ogun State (May 2005) and Asaba, Delta State in July, 2007 respectively. He was also a member, of Forum of State Independent Electoral Commission (FOSIECON) between January 22nd and May, 2007.

Barr. Oyefeso has attended several conferences which include: The Nigeria Bar Association Conference from 1988 till date; Seminar for Directors of Community Banks, Abuja, 1999; Ogun state Muslim Leaders of Thought, Ijebu-Ode, May, 1997 and Workshop for Directors/Manager of Community Banks on Lending by Community Banks, Abeokuta, 2002.

He had also from 2004 till date attended the conference of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), International Conference Centre, Abuja; National Conference of the Companion- An Association of Muslims in Business and Profession at Lafia Hotel, Ibadan, Oyo State in 2006 as well as National Conference of University of Lagos Muslim Alumni at Gateway Hotel, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State in November, 2006.

Among the papers presented by Barr. Oyefeso are: The Principal of Non-intervention in Domestic Affairs of Nation in International Law (Being Project for the Award of LL.B Degree); The History, Problem and Prospect of Mortgages in Credit Transactions (Being Seminar Paper for LL.M Programme) and Islamic Perspective to Planning Law (LL.M Seminar Paper).

A workaholic and indefatigable Oyefeso, despite exigency of work, still created time for some extra curricular activities which include: Director, Ayepe Community Bank (1999 till date); Legal Adviser, Idimu-Titun Community Development Association; Chairman Ibidun - Towolawi /Ajulo-Opin Residential Association (2001); Ex-Officio, UNILAG Muslim Alumni; Secretary, Student Disciplinary Committee, Yaba College of Technology (1990); Legal Adviser, Student Union Government of Yaba College of Technology (1990) and Secretary, Governing Council Panel set up to investigate the May Student riot (1991).

He is also a member, Muslim Lawyer Association of Nigeria; Patron/Adviser, Muslim Student Society of both Yaba Technology and Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo (1993); Legal Adviser, Ayepe Muslim Community; Member, Federation of Muslim Graduates of Nigeria; Member, the Companion - An organization of Muslims in Business and the Professions; Delegate, Social Democratic Party (S. D. P) Odogbolu L.G.A (1993); Legal Adviser, Alliance for Democracy, Constituency 2, Alimosho Local Government, Member, Central Working Committee, Alliance for Democracy (AD) Ward D (2001); Member, Elders Committee of Idimu/Egbe L.G.A. as well as Legal Adviser, Ayepe Community Development Association (2007).  Barr. Oyefeso had also aspired to represent constituency 02, Alimosho Local Government, in the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2003.


In appreciation and acknowledgement of his selfless services to humanity and enviable philanthropic gestures over the years, Barr. Oyefeso has received numerous chieftancy titles and meritorious awards from religious, educational and social organizations. He is the Seriki Adinni, Alasalatu; Adinni of Ijebu Ayepe ; Mogaji Adinni of Ayepe Central Mosque and Otun Tayese of Oworonsoki Land. He was also a recipient of Ogun State Student Union, Federal College of Education, FCE (T) Akoka Award (1999); Alimosho Youth Mainstream Award (2002); Allahu Waheed Muslim Society, Shomolu (1997); Fountain Pillars Award of Fountain Club, Alimosho and Achievers Award by Nigeria Aid Group, Lagos State Command. He is also a recipient of a Meritorious Award of Association of Muslim Brothers and Sisters of Nigeria (AMBROSIS); Award of Islamic Excellence by Centre for Research on Islamic Education;,Lagos; 4th DAMAS Golden Award, Lagos 2004; Merit Award of Excellence by Ithad-L-Islam Association of Nigeria; Great African Merit Award (GAMA) 2006 and a Merit award by Madrasat Allahus Samad (Adogunduro) Islamic Institute of Arabic/Islamic Studies, Lagos.

Others are Merit Award for distinguished Performance and selfless service to Islamic Course by Muslim Student Society (MSS), Lagos State Area Unit and Merit Award by AL-Mubaraq Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, Lagos.

Barrister Oyefeso is happily married and blessed with beautiful children.
