A Message
from the Chairman
Consistent
with the letter and spirit of the Constitution of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria (Third Schedule, Part II) and the State Electoral Law,
my mission is to conduct free, fair, and credible Local Government
Elections as at and when due. To achieve this, I will ensure that
the legal framework and human and material wherewithal are provided.
In addition; I will ensure that a high level of transparancy is
demonstrated through the maintenance of records and facilitating
access to them during and after the elections.

History
and Mission Statement And Objective Of Kaduna State Independent
Electoral Commission
The
Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission is a creation statute
It was established by Section 197(i) (b) of the Constitution of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
Before the coming of the 1999 Constitution, there existed a State
Law for the Establishment of the Kaduna State Electoral Commission
of the Kaduna State Electoral Commission Law Cap 50 Laws of Kaduna
State, 1991.
The Commission comprises a Chairman, and Six Members. Under Section
3 of part II of the 3rd Schedule to the 1999 Constitution, the Commission
was established to:
a) Organise, undertake and supervise all elections to Local Government
Councils within the State; and
b) Render such advice as it may consider necessary to the Independent
National
Electoral Commission on the compilation of and the register of voters
in so far as that register is applicable to local government elections
in the State.
Since its establishment, the Commission has organised bye-elections
to fill Councillorship vacancies in five Local Government Councils
and referenda for the creation of additional Local Government Areas
in Kaduna State which led to the restructuring of fhe state to 69
Local Government Areas from the 23 that existed up to 2002
