A
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
GOSIEC
was established on 19th February 2000, and charged with the
responsibility of organizing, Supervising and conducting Local
Government Elections in the State.
The Commission
is an independent body, headed by an executive chairman with
commissioners assisting in administration. The commission
which was established in accordance with section 197 (1) (b)
of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999
and Gombe State Independent Electoral Law 2000 is expected
to be free of interference from any organization, therefore
expecting it to conduct a free and fair Election in the local
governments within the State.
A secretary
is also appointed to the commission, who also aids in the
commissions administration.
The vision of the commission as mentioned earlier is to plan
and execute local government election in the state. The commission
also submits its budget as other parastatals to the state
government. In election preparation, the commission is responsible
for the preparation of timetable and guideline for each election.
It also liaises with the state government for election logistics.
Distribution of election materials is the responsibility of
the commission.
All foreign
observers that would be needed for an election monitoring
are to work hand in hand with the commission. Collation, compilation
and release of election results are all the responsibilities
of the commission. This grants the commission its autonomy.
HISTORY,
MISSION STATEMENT AND OBJECTIVE OF GOSIEC.
GOSIEC
was established on 19th Feb. 2000 in accordance with section
197 (1) (b) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria 1999
and Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2000.
The Headquarters
of the commission is situated at former Gombe State House
of Assembly complex at Bolari South Gombe.
The function/objective
of the State Independent Electoral Commission is in accordance
to the third schedule part II B section 4 of the constitution
and 9 (a) (b) of the state electoral Law 2000, with some portions
amended in 2004 are as follows:
a. To
organize, undertake and supervise all elections to local government
councils within the state.
b To render such advise as it may
consider necessary to the INEC on compilation of and the register
of voters, in so
far as that register is applicable to local government election
in the state.
At its creation on 19th
Feb. 2000, the following members were appointed:

To The Commission
The Commission was dissolved, and reconstituted on 30th September
2003, and new members were appointed. The membership of the
new Board to the Commission are as presented in the Board
above.
COMMISSION MISSION OBJECTIVE
The vision
of the commission as mentioned earlier is to plan and execute
local government election in the state. According to her mandate
as stipulated in the instruments enabling her to perform the
duties to the State.
