JUNE
21, 2003, DATE FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN DELTA STATE POSTPONED
The
June 21, 2003 date earlier fixed for the conduct of the local government
general elections in Delta State has been postponed.
The
Chairman of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, Hon. Justice
James Omo-Agege, disclosed this in an interview granted the press
today in Asaba in his office.
Justice
Omo Agege said that the election date is being shifted for reason
of logistics, adding that as soon as the logistics are in place,
another date will be announced to the public.
Justice
Omo Agege told the Press that each State Independent Electoral Commission
(SIEC) has the constitutional right to fix a date to conduct election
in its State, and that the earlier date of June 21st, was agreed
upon by the various SIECs and announced in a communiqué issued
at the meeting of FOSIECON on the 4th of June, 2003.
