CHIEF JUSTICE SAMUEL GEGE JAHO(Rtd)

Chief Justice Samuel Gege Jaho(rtd) was born at Owhrode in Udu Clan in what is now known as Udu Local Government Area of Delta State of Nigeria on Sunday 5th June 1939. His Parents late Chief Andrew Jaho Rieyoren and Mrs. Ugege Jaho brought Samuel up in the Roman Catholic faith. Samuel was registered at the Anglican (C.M.S.) School Owhrode and later at C.M.S. School Egbo-Uhurie where he obtained the Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1955.

Having baptized in the Anglican Faith, Samuel was employed as a Pupil Teacher in January l956.
He taught until December 1958; in January 1959 he was admitted into the St. Peter's (Anglican) Teachers Training College Asaba where he studied and was trained a Primary School Teacher and was awarded "The Teachers' Grade III (TC III) Certificate" in December 1960.

Between 1961 and 1962 he continued his job as a teacher. In 1963 he was admitted as a student at the then Benin/Delta Teachers Training College Benin City where he obtained the "Teachers Grade II Certificate" in December 1964.

Upon completion of the Teachers Grade II Course he went back to the Classroom as a Teacher/Head master. He was Head master at L.A. School Onyobru Inland in 1965 and Otor-Udu Primary School from 1966 to 1968. During this period. he sat for and passed the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates Examinations.

In 1969 he was appointed a teacher at the Urhobo College Effurun where he finally dropped the chalk in September 1969 following his admission into the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos in September, 1969.

From September 1969 to June 1972 he was a student of the Faculty of Law University of Lagos, Nigeria where he obtained the L.L.B. (Hons) Degree of the University of Lagos.

In September 1972 he enrolled at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island where he obtained the Law School Certificate/Diploma of the College of Legal Education in June 1973 when he was called to the Nigeria Bar as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Since then, he has practiced Law in all its facets. He was a legal Officer (Legal adviser) of the Nigeria Ports Authority 1975-1982. He was a Chief Magistrate in the Bendel /Delta State Judiciary. He was Deputy Chief Registrar/Chief Registrar in the Bendel/Delta State Judiciary.

In December 1996 the then Head of State approved his appointment as High Court Judge in Delta State; following which he was sworn in as a High Court Judge in January 1997.
Having attained the mandatory age of 65 (Sixty-five) years he retired from the Service of the Delta State Judiciary in June 2004.
During the course of his Services, he attended several courses as recommended by the authorities.

On 6th June 2006 he was appointed and Sworn in as the Chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission where he is still serving till date.

The amiable legal luminary and elder state’s man clocked 70th year and celebrated the anniversary on 5th June 2009.

He is married to Mrs. Rebecca Kegbru Jaho. The Marriage is blessed with many children, grand children etc.
