   State Independent Electoral Commission

In accordance with section 197 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal, Republic of Nigeria, Benue State Independent Electoral Commission was inaugurated on the 5th day of, June 2001 by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Benue State Mr. George Akume.

Primarily, the Commission was empowered under section 4 part B;

a) To organize, undertake and supervise all elections into Local Government Councils within the State

b) To render such advice as it may consider necessary to the Independent National Electoral Commission on the Compilation of and register of voters in so far as that register is applicable to Local Government Elections in the State.

Our mission as an Independent Electoral Commission is to conduct credible, free and fair elections in Benue State that would stand the test of time and help in the sustenance of the nascent democracy in Nigeria.

We will strive to do achieve this by being fair and firm in all our dealings with those who will be participating in elections that this Commission will undertake.
