ELECTIONS

Before the creation of 24 additional Political Parties in the country, bringing the total to 30, the Commission had virtually completed all arrangements including receipt of voters register, to conduct Local Government elections initially scheduled for June 21st 2003. In spite of this setback, logistics such as funding, manpower, Security, transport facilities, publicity, voters education etc, the State Government, the state Police command, media outfits in the state as well as the Political Parties operating in the state have given us the assurance of their support immediately a date for the elections is announced.

Presently, we are liaising with these bodies to mobilize all necessary logistics needed to supplement materials on ground. Already we have adequate ballot boxes, some of th e Sensitive and non-sensitive forms as well as trained 42 Resident Electoral Officers and their assistants. With the creation of additional 29 Additional Local Government Areas, the state now has a total of 50 Local Government Areas. The Commission is presently organising to embark on the delimitation of election wards.
