A commitment

highly acceptable Local Government Elections to ensure sustainable
democracy in the third tier of government.

History
and Mission Statement And Objective Of Abia State Independent Electoral
Commission
The Commission
was inaugurated on May, 9th 2001 with a Chairman and 6 Commissioners.
The mission
statement of the commission is – vision for conducting free
and fair elections into the Local Government Councils of Abia State.
The Federal
provision for the creation of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission
is section 197 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria which empowers the Commission to conduct elections into
the Local Government Councils of Abia State of Nigeria and such
other constitutional duties like bye-elections in the councils and
conduct of referendum, which will be given to the Commission from
time to time.
The State provision
for the existence of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission
is the Abia State of Nigeria official gazette No 2 Vol 12 of 11/3/2003
(which took a retrospective effect from 9/5/2001).
The
Commission has a determination to enthrone acceptable democratic
leadership in the local government councils of Abia State.
